IN THE GREEN ROOM WITH HILLARY KLINE, event personality, nationally-published writer, beauty expert, #32under32 winner, and host of this damn shindig.
We asked her some questions. We got some answers.
Turn it up.
Who the f*ck are you and why should we care?
Easy on the language (laughs)! I am a multifaceted event personality, red carpet host, emcee and beauty expert based in the Twin Cities. I’ve appeared as the emcee/host for NBC’s Days of Our Lives Fan Event at Mall of America, a red carpet host for the star-studded Starkey Hearing Foundation Gala, and as an event personality at Super Bowl LII, the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Minnesota Twins Season Opener, the Minnesota Vikings Season Opener, fashion shows, charities and more. I appear monthly on Twin Cities Live as their beauty expert. I also travel throughout the Midwest and appear on other lifestyle television programs.
In addition to that, I am a writer. My tips/tricks/work have appeared in big-name publications such as The New York Times, Marie Claire, Forbes, Reader’s Digest, Huffington Post, BuzzFeed and more.
When I’m not busy working, I love binge-watching game shows (my goal is to be a host someday!) and 90’s sitcoms, mural-hunting around the Twin Cities, and finding the perfect red lipstick.
HOW DID YOU GET HERE?
Well, I first shot out of the womb on October 4…wait, how far back are we talking here? (laughs) In terms of my professional and personal path, it’s taken a lot of hard work, persistence, and determination to get to where I am today. I have done plenty of brand building, portfolio building, engagement, and networking. Networking is my favorite. Many of the opportunities that I have had have either been through word-of-mouth or pitching. Referrals are always the best—those, too! I’ve encountered plenty of hiccups and challenges along the way, defeat and rejection, but my tenacity shines through. If someone tells me no, I know that someone else will tell me yes, with time and patience of course. Honestly, it’s been one of the phrases I repeat to myself every single time I face rejection. Let’s be serious: it’s comforting and it’s true.
PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT?
This is such a tough question, but an excellent one! I have two, actually. The first one was my first-ever audition at E! News. This opportunity came after I was pitching like a mad woman during the Super Bowl, and the talent director loved my material and asked me to come out for an audition. Keep in mind – I had never auditioned before. I was SO nervous! But to say that my first audition was at a national network? That’s pretty amazing! Another proud accomplishment was co-hosting a lifestyle show called Local 5 Live. I have been so used to doing 5-6 minute beauty segments but I never co-hosted an hour-long show. That was a surreal moment for me, as it’s one of my dreams to be doing that type of work on a consistent basis.
WHAT LYRICS WOULD YOU SET AS YOUR AIM AWAY STATUS RN?
‘Diva’ is a female version of a hustler
(The one, the only – Beyoncé)
CURRENT THING YOU WANT TO RANT ABOUT ON TWITTER.
Oh, man! I can think of a few things. Perhaps the best one to rant about would be the way Minnesotans drive, passive-aggressive behavior, and trying to understand why people think bringing seafood to a lunchroom breakroom is a wise idea.
Why the f*ck isn’t there a female late-night TV host?
Another great question. The only late-night female host right now that I can think of is Busy Phillips and Samantha Bee. I’d love to know why there hasn’t been a wealth of women in late-night. There have been successful ones—think Joan Rivers or Chelsea Lately, or Mo’Nique. I would love to see this changed; multiple voices and perspectives are needed in the late-night television industry, and I think America is ready for it (or they should be).
Movie/Streaming recommendation
I am a huge movie lover—in fact, you can find me just about every other week at the Plymouth Grand 15, catching a flick (the comfy recliner chairs are always a nice touch). I have loved watching “A Star Is Born” and wish Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga would fall in love in real life. Hello, did you see that Oscars performance? I could also watch “Anchorman” on repeat and never get sick of it.
On Netflix, you’ll find me watching gameshows like “Emogenius” or “Jeopardy,” or cooking shows like “Nailed It.” If you’re looking for a great body positivity and feel-good movie, check out “Dumplin’”—loved that one so much!

Instagram worth a follow.
Locally: if you’re not following Steve Patterson (@kstpsteve) you’re sleeping! He’s the co-host of Twin Cities Live and is absolutely HILARIOUS, both in real life and on Instagram. His videos will bring a smile to your face, plus, he’s been doing some pretty big things lately!
Also, I love following Thrifty Traveler (@thriftytraveler)/Minneapolis Flight Deals (@minneapolisflightdeals). I am always looking for my next getaway and great flight deals. Where should I go next?
Favorite Band/Artist at the moment.
Maren Morris. Her song, “Girl” has been on loop. I have been on a country music kick lately and I am not sure why; it’s not usually something I gravitate to. Honestly, not mad ‘bout it, though.
Favorite Song at the moment.
“Ladies in the ‘90s” by Lauren Alaina. Again, more country music!
Where can we find you?![Hillary Kline]()
You can find me all over the place – a red carpet, on television, maybe hunting for a new lipstick that I probably don’t need. But if you want to get social with me, please feel free to follow me here and say hello:
