As co-owners of the first women-owned microbrewery in Minnesota, Jill Pavlak and Deb Loch have a few things to say about blazing the trail. Join the powers behind St. Paul’s Urban Growler as they share the humble beginnings of building their own brewery from scratch, working alongside a partner with differing strengths, and immersing themselves in the unknown to build something incredible.
Deb Loch Bio
Deb Loch is the Master Brewer at Urban Growler. Deb started out her career as a biomedical engineer and professional project manager in the medical device industry. In the early 90s, she began homebrewing and grew increasingly passionate about it – so much so that she left her corporate job to turn pro. Deb became the Assistant Brewer at Minocqua Brewing Company in Minocqua, WI. She completed the Master Brewers Program at UC Davis and then became an apprentice brewer at Summit Brewing. Nowadays, Deb is the master brewer, master planner, master visionary. Her nickname at the brewery is Papa Smurf.
Jill Pavlak Bio
Jill Pavlak is Co-Head Honcho at Urban Growler. Jill graduated with a degree in Speech Communications and Psychology – talk about perfect training for the beer industry. Prior to Urban Growler, she owned two other successful businesses. Jill is as personable as they come. She’s warm and funny with an engaging personality. For her, it’s all about relationships – people really are her passion, she is forever making connections. It would be hard to say in a few words what Jill does at the brewery – she’s the voice behind social media, she’s the customer service guru, she’s the human side of business, she’s the saddle on our horse, she’s the carbonation in our beer, and the hair plug in our toupee. She’s here for you.
