#FromTheDeskOf campaign seeks to showcase different career paths, professions, and people in Minnesota’s advertising and marketing community. Today we feature Liz Tupper, Director of Strategy & Account Management, Software for Good.

What’s on your desk?
Which desk? I work from my porch at home, coffee shops, wherever I can find a place to get things done. But at Software for Good’s office, which is at Impact Hub Minneapolis-St. Paul, my desk has a handful of business cards of people I need to connect with, sketches from some of our strategy sessions with clients, and a mini-trash can.
What’s the most important thing on your desk?
Honestly, my computer! It’s the lifeline to my work.
How did you get to this desk?
I was coming off of a self-imposed work sabbatical and looking for the right company to join, and I reached out to Casey, Software for Good’s CEO. I wanted to learn more about how the company came to be and see if there was any opportunity for us to partner in the future. We just clicked. He decided to see about me joining the team, and asked what I wanted to contribute. I joined the company as Director of Strategy in 2016.
What sets Software for Good apart from other companies is being able to impact the lives of others in a meaningful way. It’s not just a name; we actually are building software for good. I’ve worked in many types of organizations throughout my career, and have decided that I want to do more meaningful work with my skills. This organization felt like a really good place to do that.
What’s your favorite thing that happens at your desk?
Getting tasks accomplished. I’m a very task-oriented person, so I like checking things off my list. When something gets done, whether it’s a small or large task, it’s invigorating.
Every day is different in this industry, what did you do today at this desk?
I had a couple phone calls with prospective clients, replied to emails, and checked in on some of my client projects. I also spent some time thinking through and coming up with a communication plan on how the organization as a whole needs to evolve. As a software development company, we’re continuously focused on improvement, and questioning what we’re doing and how we work. We try to treat ourselves as we treat our clients, and be strategic about our direction and our priorities.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Never stop learning. Keep learning and growing and questioning and challenging and connecting with people. There’s no end to how much you can learn.
