A day in the life of Tyler Eichorst is like:
Days tend to start early and end late but that’s a good problem to have when you are growing a company (and is a great way to stay out of trouble). The approach has always been to put the needs of the team first, so I find myself in a supporting role, helping each member in a different way, leading us through the various challenges and opportunities we face. Some days it’s going from meeting to meeting, others it’s running a camera while simultaneously directing a family of eight to sit still and be quiet. Each day is a new adventure and always worth the early wake-up call.
What is the best part of your job?
The people we get to work with, hands down. Everyone has a story and while we are tasked with figuring out the best way to bring them to screen, we are privileged to interact with people on a personal level. So much is gained by simply opening up to another human being and it has been humbling the stories we have been able to tell and become a part of.
What has been the biggest “aha” moment in your career so far?
People are quick to have an opinion but slow to offer up a solution. You have to trust your gut, through and through and not wait for someone to tell you what to do. I’ve long said that if we tried to be like everyone else, we would be ok at what we do, but our approach, one that works best for this team of creatives, allows us the chance to be great.
Along the way, you’ve probably had many people impart bits of advice upon you. What insight has left a lasting impression on you?
A quote that I had heard early on in my career but took on a different meaning years later reads, “Start telling the stories that only you can tell”. It goes on to say that, “There will always be people who are much better at doing this or doing that – but you are the only you.” The moment you stop comparing yourself to everyone else is the first time you will truly be free to create.
Who or what inspires you most?
Inspiration can come from anywhere, anyone or anything so for me, it’s being in a position to listen and draw from it new ways to tell stories. Times change, people change, but the need to inspire through film and remind others the importance of the human connection will never dwindle.
Do you have any words of wisdom for those who aspire to be a future #32under32 winner?
Everyone who thinks they have it all figured out, doesn’t. Don’t wait or ask for permission to create something that only you can.
