“Never settle. Keep learning. Continue to challenge yourself.
Work should be hard; that’s why they call it work.”

Currently, Tricia Jo is the Marketing Director at Real Estate Nation and Realtor with RE/MAX Results.
Previously, she was a Senior Account Manager at Kick and an associate at The Lacek Group.
She’s always had a passion for real estate and feels it is a natural fit. She began in the industry at age 15 as a receptionist doing the photography and designing home marketing.
Tricia Jo brings a unique perspective and advice based on her own experience with Ad 2 Minnesota, a 32 under 32 winner, and advertising experience from agency to in-house. Kaitlyn Hilliard, of Ad 2 Minnesota, caught up with Tricia Jo to get the scoop.
Since becoming a 32 under 32 winner in 2014, what has been your proudest accomplishment?
My son Ryder Jonah. Only 7 months and couldn’t be more proud.
Now that you are a mom, how should marketers speak to moms?
Simplify it for moms. Make it easy. And make us laugh whenever possible. Some brands do that really well.
Where do you go for inspiration?
I LOVE PINTEREST— for style tips, decorating tips, new mommy tips. It’s like my magazine subscription. I also subscribe to Inman News for Realtor news.
What advice do you have for those starting out in their advertising career?
Don’t get so hung-up on your job title. Look at every day as a way to learn something new. Never settle. Keep learning. Continue to challenge yourself. Work should be hard; that’s why they call it work. If the work were easy, everyone would do it. For the first time in my life, I don’t feel like I am searching for the next promotion (or Senior AE title). I’m content simply helping people every day in a different way!
And of course, being an Ad 2 Member helps learn more about different paths and opportunities. How can members and leaders get the most out of Ad 2?
When it comes to Ad 2, put in the value you want to get out. It’s more than just attending, but being an active participant. Some of my strongest friendships in the industry came from my early years in Ad Fed when we would have crazy ideas and try to execute them in a cool fashion. (Like a wine tasting at the Lone Tree downtown Mpls, or an Olympic themed uptown pub crawl) I also recently sold a home for a fellow Ad 2 committee member from 2007 or so, so great to have a network to help each other.
Sometimes attending those Ad 2 events can be daunting! How do you approach networking?
Think of networking as a listening exercise. Don’t be afraid to give a stranger a compliment too! Meeting people can come from all spaces, such as waiting in line at a coffee shop. Give more than you take. Now that is memorable networking because what goes around comes around.
Come try out Tricia Jo’s networking tip and come celebrate this year’s 32 under 32 nominees and winners at the #32under32 Awards – May 17 at the Varsity Theater.
